The Biden Administration's new slant on vaccine mandates last week impacts over 100M Americans. While they did originally say that vaccine mandates were not going to be implemented in May, they reversed course due to the rise in Covid-19 cases and sustained high levels over the past 6 weeks.

One key crux that comes into the decision is labor.

On the one hand, it is known that implementing a vaccine mandate will create a safer workplace for Covid-19, and could make more hesitant workers feel more comfortable coming back to work. On the other hand, in particular for the hospitality industry, it could be a deterrent for some workers who disagree with the vaccine mandate on personal views, making an already tight labor market even tighter. Time will only tell the resulting impact from announcing the vaccine mandate now. Historically, vaccine mandates have always been met with resistance, but eventually the resistance subsides and ultimately is better for public health.

Also in this week's news, updated guidance from the CDC regarding masks, citing a new study that shows over 60% of KN95s in the marketplace right now do not meet NIOSH standards. Plus how at home rapid testing will help steer the world out of the pandemic over the coming months.
